Lulworth Cove Tours
Lulworth Cove is one of the finest examples of a cove anywhere in the world — a near-perfect circle of water enclosed by chalk cliffs, formed over thousands of years as the sea broke through layers of rock of varying resistance. Our guided Lulworth Cove tours take you there in a comfortable small-group minibus, with an expert local guide who explains the geology behind this remarkable formation. Whether you're visiting independently or arriving on a cruise ship at Portland Port, Lulworth Cove is a must-see on any Jurassic Coast itinerary.
About Lulworth Cove
Lulworth Cove was formed by the sea breaching a band of softer Wealden rock behind a resistant barrier of Portland limestone and chalk. As the sea wore away the softer rock, it created the near-circular bay we see today. The different rock layers that make up the cove's walls are a textbook example of coastal geology, and the site is studied by geologists from around the world.
The cove is part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of Dorset's most popular natural attractions. The village of Lulworth sits at the head of the cove, with a heritage centre, cafés, and a pub. It's also the starting point for the coast path walk to Durdle Door, just over a mile to the west.
