Guided Jurassic Coast Tours from Portland & Weymouth

Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle sit within a short drive of both Portland and Weymouth, which makes this stretch of the Dorset coast one of the easiest big days out in England — if you have the right guide and don't have to worry about parking. We run small-group guided minibus tours from Portland and Weymouth, plus cruise shore excursions timed around your ship at Portland Port. Groups are 6 to 15 people, with a local guide who has walked these paths in every season.

The Three Landmarks Everyone Comes For

Nearly every tour we run from Portland and Weymouth is built around these three places. They are close enough to combine, and different enough that a day covering all of them never feels repetitive.

Durdle Door

Dorset's natural limestone arch — the most photographed landmark on the Jurassic Coast, with a short cliff walk down to the beach.

Lulworth Cove

A near-perfect circular bay carved by the sea, a mile from Durdle Door and the classic second stop on the same coastal run.

Corfe Castle

A thousand-year-old ruined castle above the village of Corfe, in the Purbeck hills behind the coast — history to finish the day.

Why Start From Portland or Weymouth

Portland sits at the western end of the Jurassic Coast, joined to the mainland by Chesil Beach. Weymouth is a few minutes further on, with the beach, harbour and the old town along the seafront. Both are within roughly half an hour of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, and under an hour from Corfe Castle.

The advantage of being collected rather than driving yourself is the roads. The lanes down to Durdle Door and Lulworth are narrow, the car parks fill early in summer, and the coast path between them is a one-way walk unless someone moves the car. On a guided tour you are dropped at one end and met at the other.

Cruise Shore Excursions from Portland Port

If you are arriving at Portland Port on a cruise ship, the same three landmarks fit into a shore excursion timed around your ship's schedule. We meet you where you disembark, with a name board, and return you to the port at least an hour before departure. Because the coast road is short, a half-day ashore is enough to see Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove properly rather than through a coach window.

  • Meet your guide at the port, no transfer to a separate meeting point
  • Itinerary adjusted to your ship's actual time in port
  • Return to the ship at least one hour before sailing
  • Small groups of 6–15, with time to walk down to the beaches

See our Portland cruise excursions page for how shore days work, or read about the Jurassic Coast tour from Portland that covers all three landmarks. Cruise passengers can also submit a shore excursion enquiry with their ship and dates.

Small-Group Tours, Not Coach Parties

Cruise lines and larger operators fill 40 to 50 seat coaches on this route. We deliberately keep our Portland and Weymouth tours to a maximum of 15 guests, which changes the day in practical ways:

  • Access to smaller car parks and viewpoints that coaches cannot reach
  • Less time waiting for a group to reassemble, more time at the coast
  • A guide you can ask questions throughout the day
  • Flexibility to linger when the light or the weather is worth it
